Evil Eye Signs and Symptoms
The belief in the evil eye is rooted in Islamic teachings and is recognized as a reality. It is the idea that a person can unintentionally or intentionally harm another through envy or jealousy, leading to misfortune, illness, or difficulty. The evil eye, often stemming from a look of envy, can affect one’s health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Understanding the Evil Eye in Islam
The concept of the evil eye is supported by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He stated, “The evil eye is real; if anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.” (Sahih Muslim)
The evil eye works through destructive thoughts and envy, which can cause harm to others. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prescribed spiritual remedies, such as seeking Allah’s protection and performing Ruqyah (spiritual healing), to counter its effects.
Common Signs and Symptoms of the Evil Eye
- Chronic Illness: A family member may experience prolonged sickness that medical treatment cannot explain.
- Loss of Livestock or Business Issues: Frequent losses in livestock or businesses without logical reasons can indicate an evil eye.
- Decline in Success: Struggles in work or business despite efforts and ability may be a result of envy from competitors.
- Broken or Lost Possessions: Frequent damage to valuable items at home can be attributed to jealousy.
- Illness in Children: Sudden unexplained sickness in children, especially after visitors admire them, is a possible sign.
- Recurrent Stomachaches: Constant stomach issues in young ones may be linked to the evil eye.
- Bad Luck or Misfortunes: Persistent misfortunes, failures, or unemployment could be related to envy.
- Pregnancy Issues: Pregnant women may face health challenges due to envious thoughts or glances.
- Health Problems in Public Speakers: Frequent throat issues for public speakers may indicate the impact of the evil eye.
- Marital and Family Discord: Constant conflicts between spouses, difficulties in studies, and misunderstandings in families may result from the evil eye.
Islamic Remedies for the Evil Eye
- Ruqyah (Spiritual Healing): Recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas, along with Ayat-ul-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255).
- Seeking Allah’s Protection: Say the morning and evening supplications (adhkar) to safeguard against harm.
- Use of Water: The Prophet (peace be upon him) recommended using water from the person who cast the evil eye for the affected individual’s cleansing.
- Charity and Good Deeds: Perform acts of charity and seek Allah’s blessings to remove harm.
Caution in Diagnosis
It is important not to hastily attribute problems to the evil eye. Seek advice from knowledgeable Islamic scholars or practitioners experienced in Ruqyah. Medical conditions should also be considered and treated appropriately alongside spiritual remedies.
May Allah protect us all from envy and harm. Ameen.
