Purpose of Human Life in Islam

Allah (SWT) created human beings with a specific purpose: to worship Him and live as His vicegerents on Earth. This is clearly stated in the Qur’an:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
(Qur’an 51:56)

Worship here extends beyond rituals, encompassing all actions performed sincerely for Allah’s sake, such as ethical behavior, service to humanity, and personal development. Human life is a test, as Allah places individuals in situations to determine their obedience and faith.

“He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed—and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.”
(Qur’an 67:2)

The Concept of Life After Death

Islam teaches that this worldly life is temporary, serving as a preparation for the eternal life that follows death. Upon death, the soul transitions to the Barzakh (a state between worldly life and resurrection). Eventually, all souls will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment, where they will face accountability for their deeds.

    The ultimate destinations are Paradise for the righteous and Hell for those who reject Allah’s guidance.“Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, and indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.”
    (Qur’an 82:13-14)

Human Responsibility in This World
